Privacy policy
This policy explains the limited information Mac Apps Daily collects and how it is used.
Mac Apps Daily is operated by the team behind Mac Apps Daily (macappsdaily.com), based in Australia, which is responsible for the information described here. You can reach us through the contact page.
Information you provide
We collect information you choose to send through newsletter, contact and app-submission forms. This may include an email address, name, app details, developer details and any message or files you submit.
Payments
Payments for sponsored listings are processed by Stripe via Stripe Managed Payments, with Stripe acting as our Merchant of Record. When you pay, your card and billing details go directly to Stripe and are processed under its privacy policy. We do not receive or store your full card details; we receive payment confirmation and limited order information needed to publish and manage your listing.
Information collected automatically
Our hosting and security systems may process basic request information such as an IP address, browser type, requested page, referring page and time of access. We may also record aggregate outbound app-link clicks to understand which listings are useful.
The small online-reader count uses a random identifier stored for the current browser session. We store only a one-way hash of that identifier and the last-seen time, not the identifier itself or an IP address in the presence record. Active counts use a short two-minute window and stale records are removed after one day.
Analytics
If you accept analytics cookies, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate site usage. It may process pages viewed, referring pages, browser and device information, approximate location inferred from an IP address, interactions and engagement time. Google processes this information as our analytics provider. See Google’s privacy policy and the Google Analytics opt-out tool.
Google Analytics is separate from the cookieless online-reader count described above and from our server-side aggregate outbound-link counts.
How information is used
- To operate, secure and improve the directory.
- To review submissions and respond to messages.
- To process payments and manage sponsored listings.
- To send updates requested by subscribers.
- To measure aggregate site and listing performance.
- To comply with legal obligations and prevent abuse.
Sharing and service providers
We do not sell personal information. Limited information may be processed by providers used for hosting, storage, email delivery, payment processing and privacy-conscious analytics. Those providers receive only what is reasonably necessary to perform their service. Some providers may process data outside Australia; where they do, we take reasonable steps to ensure it is handled consistently with this policy.
These providers include Google for consent-based analytics and an error-monitoring provider used to diagnose application failures. Error monitoring is configured not to send personal information by default.
Cookies and local storage
Essential cookies and session storage may be used for security, administrative sessions and the short-lived online-reader count. These are always available because they are needed to operate the site.
Google Analytics 4 cookies load only after you select Accept in the analytics banner. You can select Reject just as easily, and rejecting analytics does not affect your use of the site. Your choice is stored in your browser’s local storage. Use the Cookie settings link in the footer at any time to review or change that choice.
Third-party app websites have their own cookie and privacy practices.
Children
The service is intended for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided information, contact us and we will delete it.
Retention and security
Information is retained only as long as reasonably needed for the purpose for which it was collected, record-keeping, security or legal requirements. No online service can guarantee absolute security, but we use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards.
Your choices
You can unsubscribe using the link in an email. To request access, correction or deletion of information you supplied, contact us. We may need to retain limited records where required for security or legal reasons.
Changes
We may update this policy as the service changes. The date above identifies the current version.
