Sundown is a menu-bar app that makes your Mac display far warmer and darker than macOS allows. Night Shift bottoms out around 2700K; Sundown goes to 500K, a deep candlelight red, on a sunset-to-sunrise schedule or by hand.
Dimming pulls the gamma curve down rather than the backlight, so the screen darkens without flicker, and anti-dithering smooths banding on Apple Silicon. It is native Swift, about 6 MB, needs no account, and the developer publishes a cited science page.
It costs $4.99 a month, $39 a year or $79 lifetime after a 7-day trial, a premium over free f.lux. macOS 14 or later.
