Pearcleaner is the free answer to app cleanup: drag an app in and it hunts down every preference file, cache and support folder the standard uninstall would leave behind.

It's open source with around 13,000 GitHub stars, and it became the community's default CleanMyMac X alternative for good reason — no subscription, no upsells, no nagging.

Honesty requires noting the development pace slowed in late 2025. Even so, it remains the standard recommendation, and the current version does the job cleanly.
